Gershwin wrote "Summertime and the livin' is easy." I have to agree for the most part. It's been pretty fantastic with very little drama from the kiddo around here. I'm pretty certain though, that Gershwin only wrote those words because he in fact didn't have children. I'm blessed to have a darn good one most days.
On the off days, it's not that D is having a 'terrible, horrible, no good very bad day'. It's just that he gets B.O.R.E.D!
Last year, we did the boredom box. Uh ya. FAIL! I was NOT going to go through that again. Brilliant idea? Yes. Did it work for our family? Not even a little.
D simply loves routine and when he is out of his routine, he is BORED! When I say he loves routine I mean he really REALLY loves routine. He's the kid that before he even goes to the bathroom in the morning, he makes his bed. He's the kid that before he even ASKS to get breakfast, his chores are done. He's the kid that WANTS to do math and reading homework during the summer!
D was taken out of his routine for 11 days this summer when he went to Cedar City to spend time with Gma and Gpa Fonnesbeck while I went to girls camp. I'd say he handled the change rather well, enjoying: Fishing, swimming, The Music Man, car shows, a pancake breakfast, parades, more fishing, movies, shopping, (he came home with 5 new t shirts) golfing with Grandpa, arcade games, mini golf, go-karts, Chuck O Rama (or as I like to call it...UPCHUCK A RAMA,) bike rides, and paddle boats.
He has also enjoyed at home with myself and Dustin, Lagoon, Aquatic Center, many movies, day camp, Sports Academy, parades, friends, late nights, fireworks, Oliver, and baseball games. I think we are ready for summer vacay to end. We only have one family reunion and one family campout to go and we're ready for school to start. Minus the fact that he's going into 5th grade, but ya...BRING IT!
